Hey folks,
Here are 3 items for your consideration:
1) Simbang Gabi - The Catholic Filipino American community invites you to join them in their traditional Advent celebration:
Simbang Gabi or Night Mass is one of the most treasured religious traditions in the Philippines. It is a devotional Novena of Masses starting on the 9th day before Christmas. This Advent custom dates back in the early 1670’s during the Spanish rule over the Philippines. Simbang Gabi has been modified in the US to welcome more people to participate in the Eucharistic celebration. One thing remains unchanged : Simbang Gabi brings to mind and to heart the reason for the season and is our way of preparing ourselves for the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
The growing Catholic Filipino American community in Birmingham and all over the state of Alabama hope to relive and keep this treasured tradition alive. The nine Night Masses will be celebrated at the Cathedral Of St. Paul (2120 Third Avenue North, Birmingham AL 35203) from December 15th to December 23rd at 7:00 o'clock in the evening, except on Saturday, December 17th which will be at 10:00 in the morning. Mass will be celebrated by our beloved Priests from different Parishes and culminates with the Most Reverend Bishop Robert J Baker officiating on December 23, 2015. 2) Lunch with your favorite Catholic apologist...me! I have received a number of requests in the last several weeks from people who would like to know how to better explain and defend their faith to others - Catholic and non-Catholic alike. Some have asked what they can say to non-Catholic family members to help them understand that Catholics are indeed Christian and maybe plant some seeds of the Faith with them; others have asked what they can do to bring fallen-away family members back to the faith, and still others have wondered what to say to their children to keep them in the faith.
Given that, I have found a place where I can go to have lunch and invite others to join me for what is basically an apologetics/evangelization Q&A session/Bible study once a week. Those who are local to the Birmingham area could come and join me for lunch, ask questions, or just listen and learn. The plan is to also broadcast these lunch sessions live on the internet so anyone, anywhere in the world can not only watch, but also ask any questions they may have.
My question to you is: Would you be interested in something like this? It would be akin to private, or small group, apologetics lessons. Ever wanted to know what to say to your Evangelical brother-in-law, your Baptist co-worker, or your Church of Christ neighbor to respond to things they've said or questions they've asked? I can teach you. Birmingham residents could join me live as often as they would like, or watch online with those not in the Birmingham area. If you would be interested in something like that, please let me know: john@biblechristiansociety.com.
3) Single Catholic Mother of 4 Needs Work - Would you please look over the resume' below and contact her if you know of an opening at your company or at another company. Also, please note that the resume' looks a whole lot nicer than it does below, but unfortunately this email program does not allow attachments, so I have to just send it barebones. If you contact Carla directly, she can send you the original version with all the nice fonts.
